KAMPUS LEGAL
Privacy Policy
Effective September 11, 2026
1. Information We Collect
2. How We Use Information
Kampus uses information to:
- Create and authenticate user accounts.
- Verify supported university membership.
- Display profiles and community content.
- Provide Global and school-specific communities.
- Operate direct messages, notifications, bookmarks, likes, events, and other features.
- Detect abuse, investigate reports, moderate content, and enforce our Terms.
- Protect account and platform security.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve Kampus.
3. Anonymous Posts
Some Kampus boards allow content to be displayed anonymously to other users.
Kampus is designed so that public interfaces do not display the author's identity on an anonymous post or anonymous comment.
4. Direct Messages
Kampus processes direct-message content so messages can be delivered between participating users.
Direct-message conversations are available only to the participating accounts through normal Kampus functionality. Administrators are not automatically given ordinary access to private conversations merely because they are administrators.
Kampus does not allow a direct-message conversation to be started from an anonymous post where doing so would undermine the author's anonymous display.
6. Data Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Kampus, maintain security, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
When an administrator removes a post, a restricted snapshot of that post and related moderation information may be retained for up to 60 days before permanent deletion.
Associated image files may also be retained during that moderation archive period so that the archived record remains complete.
Account deletion may remove or de-identify information as appropriate, although limited information may remain temporarily in backups, security records, moderation records, or where retention is otherwise required.
7. Your Choices
Depending on the feature, users may:
- Update profile information.
- Delete posts or comments where the feature is available.
- Manage bookmarks and other account activity.
- Delete their Kampus account through available account controls.
- Contact Kampus about privacy questions or requests.
Additional privacy rights may apply depending on where you live.
8. Security
Kampus uses technical and organizational safeguards intended to protect account and community information.
No online service can guarantee absolute security. Users should protect their passwords and notify Kampus if they believe their account has been compromised.
9. Children
Kampus is designed for university communities and is not intended for children under 13.
10. Independent Student Platform
Kampus is an independent student community and is not an official service of George Washington University or any other university unless explicitly stated otherwise.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Kampus changes. When material changes are made, the effective date shown on this page will be updated and additional notice may be provided where appropriate.
12. Contact
Questions or requests regarding this Privacy Policy may be submitted through the contact method made available by Kampus.
